Will insurance pay for a hotel while my house is repaired?

Additional living expense pays the increase in your normal living costs, usually capped by a percentage of the dwelling limit or a number of months.

What filed forms generally say

Most forms pay the necessary increase in living expenses so your household can maintain its normal standard of living while the home is unfit to live in.

The clause typically runs for the shortest time reasonably required to repair or to relocate — not automatically until repairs finish.

It pays the increase, not the whole bill: mortgage and normal groceries are not additional expense.

Why your policy can still say something else

The percentage or dollar cap and the time limit are set in your form, and some policies write it as a separate stated amount.
