Car policy confusing? Ask Poli.

Am I covered driving for DoorDash, Uber, or Instacart?

Nearly every personal auto form excludes carrying people or property for a fee. Here is the exclusion and the endorsement that changes it.

What filed auto forms generally say

Personal auto policies commonly exclude liability while the vehicle is being used as a public or livery conveyance, or to carry persons or property for compensation.

Delivery work is often caught by the same exclusion even though no passenger is involved, because the property being carried is for a fee.

Rideshare or delivery endorsements exist to fill the gap between your personal policy and the platform's commercial coverage, which typically only applies during certain phases of a trip.

Why your policy can still say something else

Some forms carve out volunteer or share-the-expense car pools; others exclude any period the driver is logged into a platform app. The endorsement, if any, decides which phases are covered.
