Car policy confusing? Ask Poli.
Does my auto policy pay for a rental car while mine is repaired?
Rental reimbursement is usually a separate purchased coverage with a daily cap and a total cap, not something liability or collision includes. Here is where to check.
What filed auto forms generally say
A rental car during repairs is normally paid under transportation-expense or rental-reimbursement coverage, which is optional on most personal auto policies.
When it is on the policy, it usually pays a daily amount up to a maximum number of days or total dollars — and the daily figure often does not cover a like-for-like replacement vehicle.
Many forms only trigger it when the loss itself is covered, and some impose a waiting period before reimbursement starts for a stolen vehicle.
Why your policy can still say something else
Whether the coverage exists at all, the daily and aggregate caps, and any waiting period are all set on the declarations page rather than in the booklet's general wording.
