Why was my hail-damaged roof called cosmetic?
A growing number of policies add an endorsement that pays for hail damage only when it affects how the roof functions, not how it looks.
What filed forms generally say
A cosmetic-damage endorsement typically excludes marring, dents and other appearance-only damage to roof surfaces, siding or gutters caused by hail or wind.
The dividing line most such endorsements draw is function: damage that lets water in or shortens the roof's useful life is payable, while dents that do not are not.
These endorsements are usually optional and are often attached in exchange for a premium credit, so the credit and the exclusion arrive together.
Why your policy can still say something else
Whether this endorsement is on your policy, and which surfaces it applies to, is specific to your document — check the forms and endorsements list on the declarations page.
