Policy confusing? Ask Poli.
Why did my homeowners insurance go up when I had no claims?
Most renewal increases show up as changed numbers on the declarations page rather than as a rate notice. Here is what to compare.
What filed forms generally say
An inflation-guard or automatic-increase provision raises Coverage A each term to track construction costs, and every percentage-based limit and deductible attached to it rises with it.
A percentage deductible — common for wind, hail and hurricane — is calculated from Coverage A, so a higher dwelling limit quietly raises the dollar amount you would pay in a loss.
Endorsements added, removed or repriced at renewal change the premium without changing the base policy, and they are listed on the declarations page rather than explained in it.
Territory-wide rate changes, credits that expired, and reinsurance costs also move the number, and none of those appear in the policy document at all.
Why your policy can still say something else
The increase percentage, which limits are tied to Coverage A, and which credits applied last term are all specific to your declarations page.
